Our Story
The Rocks is the core of the original settlement of Sydney, founded in 1788 on the land of the Gadigal people of Sydney Harbour.
Preserving The Rocks
Since 1900 the historic fabric of The Rocks was slowly demolished as old gave way to new. Today, the New South Wales Government actively preserves and promotes this important fragment of early Sydney.

We would like to acknowledge the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation and their Elders’ as the Traditional Custodians of this area.
Partners
Many artefacts in the museum are from The Big Dig site, officially the Cumberland and Gloucester Streets Archaeological Site on the State Heritage Register.
